Solving Problems

During the holidays, much of the attention understandably goes toward helping children and families in need. Yet seniors, particularly those living in nursing homes and long-term care facilities, can also feel forgotten. Some may have few visitors or lack the small comforts that make the season special. We help to make sure these older adults are remembered, too.

Our approach is to turn community generosity into meaningful holiday gifts and useful everyday items for elderly residents. Whether it is a warm blanket, personal care supplies, a favorite snack, or a requested present, we believe even a small gift can let someone know that they matter.

A brief history:

Lights On Jupiter was officially incorporated in 2018 by Shane Johnson, with the mission to Lighten, Brighten, and Heighten the spirits of people in our community. The organization's story began in 2014, when Shane created a Christmas light display synchronized to music. As the display drew visitors and local media attention, it became an opportunity to give back. From 2014 through 2017, the show raised more than $4,500 for Make-A-Wish, helping grant three wishes, including a trip and two shopping sprees. In 2018, the organization expanded its outreach to older adults. Funds from that year's light show helped provide more than $1,300 in blankets, lotions, coloring books, socks, hats, gloves, snacks, and personalized gifts to over 150 residents of Briarwood Nursing & Rehab. Similar holiday outreach followed in 2019 and 2020. The Christmas light show has since ended, but the charitable work it helped inspire continues.

Hearts 4 Holidays

Hearts4Holidays Logo

Hearts 4 Holidays (H4H) is the heart of what Lights On Jupiter does today. Our focus is on bringing Christmas joy to elderly residents of nursing homes and other care facilities, particularly those who may not otherwise receive gifts or have loved ones nearby during the holidays. Through this initiative, we seek to provide thoughtful presents and practical necessities such as blankets, socks, personal care items, snacks, and, whenever possible, gifts tailored to individual residents' wishes. The goal is simple: to help seniors feel remembered and cared for during the holiday season. Hearts 4 Holidays originally grew out of the generosity surrounding our Christmas light show, but the show is no longer held. The holiday outreach continues as our central mission, supported by the kindness and generosity of our community.
